In 1995, Ms. Khare was recruited to the Federal Public Service through the Accelerated Economist Training Program. She joined the Department of Finance in 1997, spending time as Advisor to the Executive Director at the World Bank in Washington, D.C. She joined the CRA in May 2015 and on May 16, 2022 was appointed Director General, Charities Directorate. Sharmila holds a Combined Honours B.A. in Mathematics and Economics from Glendon College and a M.A. in Economics from McMaster University.

Taras brings over 30 years' experience to the Business Law Group at Mills & Mills LLP, focusing on Charity/Not-for-Profit and Intellectual Property law. He has extensive hands-on experience in the charity sector having served as a director for the Canadian affiliate of an international NGO. Taras represents numerous churches, mosques, synagogues and other faith-based groups as well as many other foundations and service organizations. He spearheads the annual Knowledge Hub and also serves as President of the Ukrainian Canadian Bar Association.

Marko Slavatynskyy is an Information Technology Consultant and the owner of Slava Solutions, an IT and cybersecurity firm based in Ontario. Slava Solutions provides managed IT support, cybersecurity services, cloud hosting, and custom software development. Marko works closely with clients to integrate emerging technologies into their day-to-day operations, helping them work smarter and more securely.

Prior to joining the BDO Tax Controversy team, Kateryna practiced tax litigation at a boutique tax litigation firm in Toronto. She obtained her law degree in Ukraine in 2012 and the Canadian law degree equivalent in Ontario in 2018, called to the Bar in 2019. Kateryna holds an LL.M. from the University of Toronto and an LL.M. in Taxation at Osgoode Hall Law School. She is passionate about representing clients and advocating for their rights throughout the tax dispute resolution process.
